You could look at the number of homeless pets in our city (which is about 30,000 every year) and understandably feel powerless in the face of it.

With tens of thousands of pets arriving annually, Dallas Animal Services relies on Dallas Pets Alive and others to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome as many pets as we can. We take them on one at a time.

Here's one we took on: a small, male, Shih Tzu mix pup. He found himself last year homeless and scared in a stainless steel kennel.

The little guy arrived suffering a nasty eye infection that required having it removed. Dallas Pets Alive was able to save his life, getting him vital medical attention and an adoring foster home that showed him affection he'd never seen before – a family who lovingly named him Alastor.

Alastor rallied, threw on the charm and landed in a forever home in no time. Now this one-eyed survivor pup gets and gives love every day. DPA has rescued close to 700 pets like Alastor in the three years since we started.

We believe love changes lives. It's why we volunteer: to give our love and fight the good fight. It's our biggest and best weapon against the overwhelming obstacle of 30,000 per year.

GIve the gift of love and help a homeless pet find their one and only true love!
